Thinking About Applying to KAMSC? Here's What to Know
Choosing the right high school path—especially one focused on rigorous science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education—can be a big decision. At KAMSC, we understand that every student is unique, and we value a wide range of talents, interests, and experiences.
The information below describes the general profile of students typically admitted to the KAMSC program. It's not a checklist or a set of hard requirements—instead, it’s a helpful reference to give you a sense of what many successful applicants look like.
Most KAMSC students typically:
- Earn above a B average in high school math, science, and English classes
- Score above 40 out of 72 on the KAMSC entrance exam (Entrance exams are given in January of your 8th grade year.)But remember: these are not minimum requirements. In fact, more than 15% of accepted students scored 40 or lower on the entrance exam. We look at the whole student.
We also consider:
- Your answers to the application questionnaire
- Writing samples that show your communication and critical thinking skills
- Teacher recommendations and evaluations of your academic and personal strengths
- Personal qualities such as self-motivation, responsibility, and a genuine interest in STEM
Important: You must be enrolled in Algebra I or a higher-level math course during your 8th grade year to be eligible to apply.
If you're passionate about math and science and eager to challenge yourself in a rigorous, supportive environment, KAMSC might be a great fit for you. If you have any questions or want to better understand how your experience aligns with the program, please reach out—we’re here to help!

Interested in Joining KAMSC as a High School Student?
If you're currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade and have a strong interest in KAMSC, it's not too late to become a part of the KAMSC community! Our Upperclass Application process gives high school students the opportunity to join the program—even if you didn’t apply in 8th grade.
The process is very similar to the 8th-grade application and opens every year in mid-February. Whether you’re looking for more challenge, deeper exploration in math and science, or a community of like-minded peers, this could be your next big move.
