Student Events at KAMSC

KAMSC Olympiad

KAMSC Olympiad is a long-standing KAMSC tradition where 9th and 10th graders spend a morning competing in Science Olympiad–style challenges. Students work in teams to tackle a variety of events, while teachers serve as judges. Prizes are awarded during an assembly at the end of the morning. The KAMSC Olympiad is a fun and exciting way to wrap up our fall Spirit Week!

Big Data Days

Big Data Days is a two-day event for juniors and seniors that takes place at KAMSC at the end of the first semester each year.  It features guest speakers who work with “big data” related to a chosen theme each year. Teams analyze provided data sets, create posters showcasing their findings, and deliver quick two-minute presentations summarizing their results. Teachers serve as judges, and awards are presented to the top teams.

Searching for Health Conference

Every May, KAMSC science teacher Mrs. Tia Hohler collaborates with the Western Michigan University's School of Health and Human Services to plan and host the Searching for Health Conference for KAMSC 9th, 10th, and 12th graders. The conference focuses on public health topics, features a keynote speaker to kickoff the event and gives students the opportunity to dress professionally, choose sessions that interest them, and engage in meaningful discussions.

Computer Science Competitions

Students in our 10th, 11th, or 12th-grade computer science courses at KAMSC are prepped in class and eligible for optional competitive events.  These events are usually held in groups of three. Groups are given CS problems to solve in a given amount of time.  Typically, these events are hosted on university campuses, and high schools from around the state compete.
